Man this was on a hole other level than most super hero cartoon movies I've seen. I don't know why, but I love stories that have alternative realities and timelines.

Summer Movies

4 min read
I have to admit, this was the best summer of movies in a long time. The last time i was really blown away and inspired from watching movies was back in the late 90s to early 2000s when movies like The Matrix were new and cool. It was around that time I was the most impressionable, so movies from that era had a big impact on my creativity. In the better part of the last decade, none of the movies really lived up to the ones I had seen from that era. I would literally compare every movie set in mideivel, roman, or Greek times to The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Basically any movie that had swords and digitally composited mass of large armies charging at a digitally composited mass of large armies. Or I would compare every sci-fi to either the matrix or star wars.

Between the movies that came out in the early 2000s and the movies this summer, I would look forward to seeing the trailers more than the actual movie I was seeing. After the trailers would end and the movie would start I would always think something like ' what movie am I about to watch again, oh yea, 10,000 BC...' . Don't get me wrong, the mid to late 2000s had some pretty good movies but I wasn't super excited to see them in the theaters. Avatar was great but the story was uninspiring, and Inception was overly hyped for me so I had high expectations before I saw it.

I think that's why loved this summer's movie so much is because I had really low expectations for them. I went to go see Avengers to see if it would fail and thought Robert Downy Jr was probably going to carry the movie. But couldn't have been so wrong! Avengers was basically what every live action transformer movie wishes it was. Even though the story was simple, the characters and the chemistry between all of them were so interesting to watch. The movie I anticipated the most this summer was Prometheus, which wasn't as good as I had hoped it would be. Mainly due to several characters being inconsistent and stupid. I wasn't really looking forward to The Dark Knight Rises because I knew it wouldn't hold up to the one with Heath Ledger. After seeing it once it grew on me and I wanted see it again. After seeing it a second time I had actually liked it better than the first time. The first time I had seen it, the movie felt slow and choppy, mainly due to not knowing where each scene was going. After seeing a second time, it felt more smooth because I knew what was going on and what each scene was leading to. The Dark Knight Rises probably has the best pay off at the end than any other movie I saw this summer. Not to spoil anything but Bruce Wayne loses everything in this movie and it makes you care enough to want to know how he gets out of the hole he's in and save the day. It was the perfect underdog story. Spiderman was cool too.

So my favorite movies this summer are a toss up between the Dark Knight Rises and The Avengers, with Prometheus close behind, and Spiderman close behind that. To give you an idea of how good these movies are, I saw expendables 2 and it was badass. The first fight between Bane and Batman was a million times better than expendables 2

Another great movie I had seen this summer was The Artist. It is a silent black and white film made this year or the year before, I'm not exactly sure. But it had an awesome story and teaches the virtue of humility.
